A Writer You Will Be, My Young Padawan!
It could not have been any different. As I sit with my laptop safely rested on my thighs, I can't help but recall my childhood summers, spent banging on the ancient typewriter, at times helping the hammer slam a letter on the white page which was rapidly becoming black with my next best-seller.
I have a dream to write books, finish them and sell them to the entire world. My idols are female writers who made it through times of trouble.
I just read an article on a writer's website. I clicked on a page called "Writer's Tips." The first paragraph sent chills through my spine. In substance, it said: "Publishers refuse 99% of manuscripts, even if you get published, you probably will not be able to live from your earnings." etc. And it goes on with "If, despite all this, you still think this is the career you want to embrace, then you might be interested in some useful tips."
Seriously, who wants these so-called "tips"? The only button I clicked was the back button to return to search and erase this "Writer's Tips" from my memory.
No one starts a writing career thinking that editors accept 100% or even 50% of the manuscripts they receive. But I (and for sure many others!) start my career thinking MY manuscripts will be accepted, and MY books will allow me to support my family for a long time. If not, why would I do it?
